Multi Guide Pro
$350.00
Note: Some platen plates may require a notch to be cut in them to allow the guide to be centered of the platen
The Multi Guide Pro X is a field proven bevel grinding system. Competing guides start at around $375.00 plus tax and shipping on up to around $500.00 plus tax and shipping and do not have the same capacity or demonstrated capabilities as the Multi Guide Pro X. The price for the Multi Guide Pro X includes shipping in the USA.
Features:
- Solid aluminum construction. Slide assembly plates are CNC laser cut from 1/4″ aluminum.
- A recent upgrade is the throat angles where the blank passes are now welded Stainless Steel. These are much more accurate than the aluminum extrusion that I was using previously. The guide ships with these angles lined with .032″ UHMW. The UHMW liners are NOT covered under the warranty. Also included is a length of the UHMW tape to be used to replace these liners when they wear out the first time. The guide can also be used without the UHMW liners installed. Additionally these angle have holes in them if you wish to bolt thicker liners on. You can get some 1/8″ thick white cutting board and cut this down to make some nice inexpensive liners. The purpose of the liners is to aid the blank in sliding through the guide smoothly.
- Holes in the aluminum plates have 18-8 Stainless Steel Screw-Lock Helical Inserts installed to provide long life and thread locking to resist loosening.
- Grade 8 hardware. The Adjuster threaded rod is Grade 8. This provides for long life and smooth operation.
- Steel adjusting knob. The adjuster knob is solid steel threaded onto the adjuster threaded rod and has knurled grip for positive no slip handling.
- The adjuster knob has a scale to help keep track of the number of rotations so you can match the number of rotations when grinding the opposite bevel.
- Stainless steel on high wear areas. The main wear area on the guide is the throat. This area is where the blank/carrier passes during grinding operations. The spacer plate that supports the carrier is solid 1/16″ stainless steel.
- Two 1/4-20 mounting bolts are included. To mount it you will need to match drill two holes from the guide to your mount then tap them for 1/4-20 threads and install the two mount bolts that come with the guide.
Demonstrated capabilities:
- Hollow grinds. These can be done edge down, edge up.
- Flat Grinds. Can be done edge down, edge up. Requires your platen to be able to swivel to set the bevel angle or the bevel guide mount to be able to swivel to set the bevel angle.
- What can it grind? It has been demonstrated to handle fixed blade blanks as well as folding knife blade blanks. It can handle swords. It can do hollow and flat on recurve blanks.
Advantages:
- Reduce time required to set up and grind bevels.
- Ability to repeat guide and platen angle settings to accurately grind or duplicate a bevel without guessing.
- Increased belt life when the blanks are ground using the edge down method.
- High speed grinding. You will be able to grind with your sander at its highest belt speed settings and be in complete control of the blank. Actually the ceramic grit belts love this jig because you are able to run at the high belt speeds and pressure they require to perform as they were designed to. Due to the guides ability to apply heavy pressure to the belt under control you may find your 1-2 HP motor will struggle. If this is the case BUY A BIGGER MOTOR and grind faster. My original motor was a 5 HP. Currently testing a 3 HP with VFD. I personally would not use less than 3 HP. I really like to grind fast.
- Increased knife production capacity and reduced per knife cost. You will be able to get more knives ground in the same amount of time vs freehand grinding.
- One customer reported that he showed his 10 year son how to use the guide and now the boy can grind very good bevels. Another customer reported that after his first bevel using the guide he compared it to his best bevel prior to using the guide and there was no comparison because the bevel from the guide was that much better in a fraction of the time.
- Better and faster. Either better or faster can give a knife maker a serious competitive advantage. However when you can get better and faster together it creates a much bigger advantage.
- There have been several knife makers with disabilities that were about to end their knife making. The guide has provided the assistance they needed to be able to continue knife making.

The slide is assembled from a stack up of plates Which are then drilled and bolted together to form a very tight fitting slide. During assembly thin shims are added to the stack up to allow the slide to operate easily while remaining very tight.
To get the very best performance from your guide it will need a good mounting system to keep it square with the platen. We offer very easy to use slide mounts that can be adapted to fit a wide range of sander models.
What is edge down bevel grinding? It is grinding the bevel with the cutting edge of the blank in the down position. Advantages? Increased belt life. I have a 3M Cubitron II belt in 36 grit that has ground more than 50 blanks edge down and it is still going. Faster bevel grind when used with a blank carrier.

Robin in Australia “Hi Daryl,
Just a quick message to let you know the jig arrived safe and well, actually got here last Thursday. Really impressed with the quality and glad I didn’t try and get it made myself!
Only have one question at the moment as I have yet to try it out. The white qube I assume is a lubricant for the aluminum where it slides? But I’m very interested to know what it’s called as I have never seen anything like it and curios if I can get it locally!
Cheers again,”

I had some initial problems with the guide Pro which turned out to be my fault and not the fault of the guide. I texted Daryl and I got a text right away explaining what I was doing wrong and an offer to refund my money if I wasn’t happy. I got the guide working great and to my surprise Daryl called me a week later to make sure I wasn’t having any more problems . He has also taken the time to give me tips on knife making in general like what type of belts and steel he uses personally . Truthfully, it Just doesn’t get any better than the products and service from Belnap knives. Thanks again Daryl for everything. Steve Springer

Dave wrote regarding the new angles. He had purchased an older version then saw the new angles were available. “I just do a lot of big Bowie’s and saw your new set up on youtube and they look sturdier. I “LOVE” the jig!!!!!! It’s perfect as is I just want to purchase any upgrades you come up with.”

This is an amazing device, and very well built. Even the most experienced knifemaker can benefit from using a guide like this for producing knives more quickly with a perfectly symmetrical grind.
