Description

The NO Drill adapter slides on over the 1.5″ tool arm and clamps in position. The square tube clamp design allows for the clamp to auto center on the tool arm when tightened and does not leave damage on the tool arm like the set bolt method that is used by other tooling manufactures.

The close fit of the 1.5″ tool arms in the clamps means there is no slop in the mount that has to be dealt with when making adjustments. Just tighten the clamp and the tool arm is in position and ready to use.

The double swivel design of the guide mount means you can quickly square the guide to your sanding belt and make bevel angle adjustments.

The angles where the blade blank passes are TIG welded stainless steel. Initially when offering the Multi Guide Pro I used aluminum extrusion. The welded angles are more accurate and durable. They come with a .032″ thick UHMW plastic tape on them to aide in the blanks sliding. These angles also have 10-24 threaded holes in them in the even you wish to use a bolt on liner. I have used 1/8″ thick white plastic cutting board from Walmart with very good success. Other guide users have reported using the bolt on material with WD-40 as a lubricant for very slick surface and easy motion of the blade through the guide. It is also possible to use the guide with no liner material on the stainless steel angles. In fact I ground without liners for more than a year and some Multi Guide users have reported they prefer not to use liners.

The Shelf Spacer Plate where the blank carrier rides to control the depth in the guide is stainless steel. So the blank never is in contact with the aluminum parts of the guide which would quickly wear them out with hard steel rubbing on them.

The tightening handles are metal and very durable. They thread into steel thread inserts so they will not wear out or strip out like they might if they were threaded into aluminum.

The Adjuster Knob is solid cast steel with knurled edge. The Adjuster Threaded Rod is Grade 8 steel for maximum life and smoothness of operation.

Critical bolt locations have either steel threaded inserts,18-8 Stainless Steel Screw Lock Helicoil Inserts, or are installed with Loctite to resist high frequency vibration generated by the grinding action of the belt on the blank.

The aluminum tool arms and the no drill adapter are jigged to ensure alignment then aluminum MIG welded together. Each package is pre-assembled in my shop and checked for squareness of the tool arms with each other. Due to variables in individual machines and small variations in materials it may be possible that minor shimming of the Multi Guide to the sander will be required. This process is not difficult for most that are capable of manufacturing a knife.
